Hello, and welcome to Alias Rewind! Whether you have never seen one episode of Alias, every episode, or somewhere in between, we’re happy to have you! I’m Agent Stephanie and joining me today are Agent Miranda, and Agent Ian!

This episode is our introduction to the series. We’ll discuss what drew us to the series for the first time, the cast and what impact the show has had on us as individuals and on the TV culture. Next week we will start an episode-by-episode watching of the series and we’d love to have you join us on the long journey! We’ll include details at the end of the show for how you can get in touch with us to send in feedback or to volunteer as a guest!

Segment 1: Let’s start by sharing what drew us to the series for the first time…

Segment 2: Let’s now talk about the show itself. The show aired from 2001-2006 on ABC and launched the careers of many young Hollywood stars. It was created by JJ Abrams, whose only TV credit before this was Felicity (which is also being reviewed on this network!). Abrams cast Jennifer Garner on the show (where she appeared as Hannah in the first season) and at some point wondered “what if Felicity was a spy?” And so the idea was born. Of course, today everyone knows who JJ Abrams is. He’s gone on to produce several TV series, including Lost, Fringe and Person of Interest, just to name a few and has produced many films including the Star Trek reboot trilogy and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, just to name a few.

The cast is really fantastic, and 15 years ago when the show premiered many of them were not well known. Several have since gone on to other roles.

Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow
Ron Rifkin as Arvin Sloane
Michael Vartan as Michael Vaughn
Bradley Cooper as Will Tippin
Merrin Dungey as Francie Calfo
Carl Lumbly as Marcus Dixon
Kevin Weisman as Marshall Flinkman
Victor Garber as Jack Bristow
Greg Grunberg as Eric Weiss

Other notable recurring characters: Terry O’Quinn, David Anders, Sarah Shahi (and many more as the show continues. We’ll note them as the episodes go)

Segment 3: Finally, let’s talk about the lasting effect the show has had on us and on the tv culture.

Thank you for joining today for this flagship show of Alias Rewind! We hope that this has whet your appetite to dive deep into the mysteries of Alias as we uncover or rediscover what a multilayered show this ended up being. We want this show to be as interactive as possible. Some of you are watching for the first time, so during our episode discussions we will do our best to discuss each episode on its own without spoilers for the future episodes.

We hope that you will watch along with us. In the US, Alias is available on DVD, Hulu and the ABC mobile app on iOs or Android. It is unfortunately no longer available on Netflix streaming.

For our episode next week, we will review the pilot episode, Truth Be Told, which first aired on September 30, 2001.

We are proud to be a part of TV Rewind network of podcasts. For six years, Stephanie has been hosting TV Rewind about current tv shows and this Fall, we’ve expanded into a network of podcasts about throwback shows. We currently are hosting shows about Alias, Felicity and Psych with more planned in the future based on success of these first shows.

Please reach out to us if you’d be interested in guest hosting on Alias Rewind. You can sign up on the document on the TVRewind Facebook group.

We tried Blab for this episode, but there were some major audio problems with echo so I decided not to record the video. I did some audio rehab on this episode and had to re-record all my sections before posting it. There are sections where you will hear the doubled audio, mostly when Andrea and I are talking with each other, so I hope you can bear it.

Note: I had to do some major rehab on this episode, which included re-recording most of it because of an imbalance of audio on my side. There are still a few sections that couldn’t be fixed. This process took so much time that I did little editing of the rest of the episode. I apologize and hope you can bear with it.

Fall TV Wrap-Up Review: [00:20:04]
During the main part of the show, the guests and I discussed these questions:

What cancelled new shows (or essentially cancelled with an episode order cut) do you wish were still around?

Is there a new show that you are surprised hasn’t been cancelled yet?

Any new shows you thought you were going to like, but don’t?

Any new show you thought you weren’t going to like, but do?

What are your favorite new shows?

Any returning shows that you’ve given up on?

What returning shows do you think have gotten better this season?

Favorite returning shows this fall?

What shows are you looking forward to this Winter/Spring?

For 2015, what would be your top five favorite shows overall?
The blog posts I mentioned can be found here and here.

Fast Forward: [01:24:24]
We talked about the shows that will be returning/premiering this week. You can see the whole January calendar here.
